What Does it Mean to Submit to the Governing Authorities?
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God. Consequently, whoever resists authority is opposing what God has set in place, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
Romans 13:1
We keep hearing Romans 13:1 being thrown around as a reason to accept these illegal actions from many governors.
The word Paul uses in Romans 13:1 means to submit. He did not use the word that means to obey.
The followers of Jesus deliberately disobeyed laws that conflicted with God’s commands, BUT they submitted to the authorities by accepting the legal consequences of their actions—remember, many of the disciples ended up in prison. Please also remember that as far back as the book of Exodus, the Hebrew midwives refused to carry out the Pharaoh’s disgusting order to murder newborn babies.
Man’s law cannot be our ultimate moral guide.
As Christians, the law cannot be our ultimate moral guide. Slavery was legal, the holocaust was legal, segregation and apartheid were both legally sanctioned. Abortion is legal.
There’s going to come a time when all believers will have to stand against evil, and when that happens, we will need to submit to the consequences of standing for what is Holy, but the law does not dictate our morality. God does.
America’s Government is Unique
Our government, in America, is unique because the American Government is We the People. Our constitution not only enables us to stand up against big government overreach but commands us to.
It is our duty as the citizenry to carry out our role of protecting our Constitutional Republic by refusing to accept government overreach. We were told by our founding fathers that if we failed to carry out this duty as We the People, we would lose our Great Republic.
This is what we are witnessing now, and it’s tragic, heartbreaking, and morally wrong.
Some may say, “But our officials are not telling us to go against the word of God, therefore we must submit to them.”
I strongly disagree. Christians are to care for the sick, the weak, the elderly, the widows, the oppressed, not lock them away to die alone as if they were criminals. That is unacceptable.
Our supposed leaders are gaslighting on a global scale and forcing Americans to perpetuate their lies. They are using lies, propaganda and illegal mandates to force Americans to take part in a devastating attack against our own beautiful Republic. Friend, this is not what Paul meant when He spoke of submitting to authority.
This is unacceptable.
Please know that I believe everything we do should be done in love. We need to act on our convictions from the Lord, in love.
